w/ support from Cityscape Ensemble
Spearheaded by flautist and bandleader Harry Trevillion, Cityscape Ensemble formed after meeting at the FOLD jam session, held initially in Hilly Fields Park in Lewisham at the easing of lockdown, before taking it's home at the Matchstick Piehouse in Deptford. The project's compositions tend to be influenced by minimalist composers Steve Reich and Terry Riley: motifs and melodic phrases repeat and are used as frameworks for expansive, creative improvisation or to accompany soaring melodies. This approach leads to pieces inspired by everything from Cornish landscapes to mental health struggles.
The members of the project themselves have collaborated with important figures in UK jazz and are involved with the jazz projects of the future. This breadth of experience, paired with Trevillion's unique ear for composition and aptitude on an unusual instrument for the genre (the flute) results in a project which, truly, sounds like no-other. To date, they have played at London's finest jazz clubs (Pizza Express SOHO, Toulouse Lautrec, Jazz in the Round etc) and are set for an appearance at the biggest jazz festival in the UK: Love Supreme.
